What happens behind the scenes of An Open Book?
The process of the Boekmaat
1. We zijn in het begin opzoek gegaan naar iemand die onze Boekmaat zou kunnen produceren. Via contacten zijn we bij een professionele houtbewerker terecht gekomen, die ons graag wou helpen.
(In the first stages, we searched for a suitable manufacturer for our product. Eventually we connected with a skilled woodworker who we now work with and assisted us through the design and production.)
2. Stap 2 was onderzoek doen naar de schaal. Hier hebben we ervoor gezorgd dat de Boekmaat op de perfecte schaal is om lekker in je hand te liggen.
( In the next step, we conducted research to ensure that our product has the right and most comfortable design so that it would fit comfortably in one's hand.)
3. Aan de hand van deze resultaten hebben we een digitaal 3D model gemaakt van de Boekmaat. Hier hebben we exact uitgetekend hoe groot hij ging worden en hoe hij eruit ging zien.
(Based on our research and discussing multiple options with professionals, a 3D model was made. This allowed us to precisely outline dimensions and the appearance. This was the last step before giving life to the first Boekmaat! )
4. Eenmaal tevreden hebben we het 3D model doorgestuurd naar de houtbewerkingsmachines gestuurd om het te laten uitsnijden in de verzamelde planken.
(Once satisfied with the design. We proceeded to transmit the 3D model to the machinery in order to have it carved out from the collected planks.)
5. Toen het doorgestuurd was kon de machine beginnen met het uitsnijden van de Boekmaatjes.
(After that the machine starts to roughly cut out our Boekmaatjes.)
6. Wanneer de Boekmaatjes klaar waren konden we ze uit de machine halen. Nu is het meeste werk af!
(Once the machine has done its work, we will check the results and the boekmaatjes will individually be removed from the wooden plank.)
7. Hierna zijn de Boekmaatjes individueel met de hand bewerkt. Dit doen we om de randjes mooi rond te maken en om de eventuele gaatjes of deukjes er uit te halen.
(Each boekmaat underwent individual finishing touches by hand. This process involves refining the edges to achieve a smooth and rounded appearance, as well as addressing and correcting any other imperfections that might occur during the production process.)
8. Als laatste stap hebben we de Boekmaten ondergedompeld in olie. Hierdoor blijft het hout langer goed en beschadigen ze minder snel.
(As final step, the boekmaatjes are immersed in protection oil. This helps to preserve the quality of our boekmaat and reduces the chances of damage.)
9. Nu zijn de Boekmaten klaar en ready om verkocht te worden! Heb jij er al 1 gekocht?
